Last Friday, the St Mary’s Cross Country event at Gundary Oval was a fantastic display of determination and team spirit. Every child gave their absolute best, pushing through the challenges of the new course with incredible enthusiasm. All of our runners, from Kinder to Year 6, showed their commitment to doing their personal best and supporting each other along the way. It was inspiring to see such a positive spirit and effort from everyone involved, whether they were racing for the top spot or simply enjoying the experience. The day truly highlighted the amazing teamwork and perseverance within the St Mary’s community. The new track was a welcome change and proved to be much more challenging which is great in the lead up to the next level in Wolumla.
A highlight of the day was witnessing our littlest runners persevere in the drizzling rain and run their races with the biggest of smiles. I’m not sure if they enjoyed the run or the rain more! A little bit of rain didn’t dampen their spirits at all.

Ribbons will be presented at our next school assembly to be held in the PAC on Thursday 10 April. All parents, family and friends are welcome to join us.
We have many students making it onto the next level of Cross Country early next term. Southern Region Cross Country will be held at Wolumla Sports Grounds on Friday 2 May. It is always a very tricky course, with some big hills and muddy creeks in parts. Parents and families are invited to walk the course at 10.30am before races start not long after. More information and details have been communicated via COMPASS.

CECG Sports Trials
Netball
Last Thursday, Matilda W travelled to Canberra to participate in the CECG Netball trials. This was one of the biggest netball trials in a long time with over 70 students attending, all vying for a spot in the Canberra Goulburn team. Matilda joined with some other students from representative teams and St Bernard’s. Matilda played in some incredibly tough games, showing off her well developed skills in the game.
Matilda W: ‘I had a great day at the Netball trials. I met some new people and it was good that I got to play with my friend Gigi. It was the first time I had played on an indoor netball court which was fun. I made it into the possible and probable team which I was happy about’.
Rugby League
On Monday, many of our boys in Years 5 and 6 also travelled to Canberra to trial for a position in the Canberra Goulburn Rugby League teams. These trials are highly popular and are a highlight on the school sport calendar for many of our boys in Stage 3. Congratulations to Ollie A, Sam W, Xave E, Tane M, Beau Mc, Hugo D, Lewis Mc.
In exciting news, we congratulate Xavier E and Beau Mc on their selection into the CECG 11 years Rugby League Team. The boys are looking forward to playing against other diocese teams next term.
Xave, Tane, Ollie, Sam, Beau, Hugo and Lewis: ‘It was good, we all had a great day. Everyone gave it a good go and we were challenged by kids from other teams who played well too.We really had to work as a team even though we didn’t know the other players but it was a great experience.
Soccer Trials
Next Monday, we have 4 students trialling for the CECG soccer trials. We wish all the very best of luck to Andre L, Tommy D, Nicholas A and Mackenzie H and I look forward to sharing their results with you in the next newsletter.
