Religious Education News

First Eucharist Mass
On Sunday, six of our Year 4 students will be making their First Eucharist at 10:00 am mass. We pray for Beau McD, Nicholas A, Ethan T, Aria T, Matilda P and Willa McL as they prepare for this very special occasion in their faith journey. We would like to warmly welcome all families to join us to celebrate the sacrament of First Eucharist for these children on Sunday 15 September at 10:00am.

First Reconciliation
Congratulations to Calvin M in Year 3 for receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this week. Calvin celebrated his Reconciliation along with his friends at his old school in Canberra on Tuesday.

A snapshot of Religious Education in the classroom
In Year 6, students have been learning about Mother Mary’s significant place in Christian traditions. She is often viewed as a symbol of purity, compassion, and maternal care. They are also exploring the importance of Marian prayers in the Church, such as the Hail Mary and the Rosary. The Year 6 students have begun creating their own meditative prayer experiences, which they will individually present to the class during morning prayer.

Welcome back FR. George
We welcome Fr George back after a month away. It was lovely to have him visit with Year 4 on Tuesday and Thursday to support them as some of the students prepare to make their First Holy Communion on Sunday. Fr George spoke about the significance of the Eucharist and answered some big, philosophical questions from the boys and girls.

Archdiocesan Assembly Hub - The Year of The Holy Spirit
St Mary’s have been invited to participate in the Archdiocesan Assembly Hub, offering a unique opportunity for collaboration with Archbishop Christopher Prowse and schools across the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn. Engagement at St Mary's will be facilitated by Jess Afflick and Allison Lock. Students are encouraged to prayerfully discern the guiding question and, through 'Conversations in the Spirit,' prepare statements for submission.

Stage 3 teachers will guide students in unpacking the question: "How can the Church help young people know Jesus?" Together, they will explore key topics such as: Who is the Church? What does the word 'Church' mean? How did the community of the Church come about? This initiative will enable students to participate in meaningful, prayerful discussions, exchange ideas, and deepen their understanding of faith and community involvement. It will also support the development of leadership skills, foster connections with peers, and encourage active participation in the broader Catholic community.

Prayer

O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may
be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolations.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen

Grace and blessings on your journey,

Mrs Jessica Afflick & Ms Allison Lock (Acting)
