Canberra Goulburn Rugby League MacKillop Selections
Congratulations to Sam W, Leo S, Billy, I, Mitchell W and Nathan W who competed at the MacKillop selections Rugby League event at Canberra on Friday, 10 May. The boys came up against students from Wagga, Wollongong, Sydney and Parramatta Diocese and were put through their paces with some well drilled and skilled players. All of the boys commented that the Sydney and Parramatta teams were the ones to beat and even in their short time playing against them, they were able to pick up some tips and tricks to take back into their own games here in Moruya. Well done boys for representing both St Mary’s and The Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese with pride and for being wonderful ambassadors for our school.
Leo S: ‘It was cold, but I really enjoyed it with my mates. I think the hardest team was Parramatta. There were some really huge kids playing.’
Billy I: (absent)
Nathan W: ‘It was exciting and cold. It was fun playing against kids from other places. Sydney was the hardest game of the day.’
Mitchell W: ‘It was fun but cold. The hardest team was Sydney because they were fast and big. It was good playing against different people and with my friends.’
Sam W: ‘It was fun playing in the cold and playing with different people. I thought the hardest team was Parramatta.’
Archdiocesan Cross Country
Last Friday, 16 of our students competed at the Archdiocesan Cross Country at Mt Stromlo in Canberra. It was a beautiful sunny day, ideal running conditions. All age groups were well presented by students from across the ages of 8-12.

All students had been training over the past few weeks, both at school with Mr Hill in running club as well as undertaking their own training regimes before and after school. It was very evident that all of this practice paid off with the results indicating most students finished in the top 12/14 of runners in their age groups from across the Southern, Western and Northern Regions. This is an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to all the students who participated and especially to Calvin M (placed third), Xavier E (placed sixth) and Andre L (placed fifth) who have made it through to MacKillop selections Cross Country in Sydney in week 6. We wish these boys lots of luck at the next level of competition.
