Dear Families,
Christian Meditation
Christian Meditation is an important form of prayer which our students take part in daily here at St Mary’s. It is a practice leading from the mind to the heart. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness. Christian Meditation gives us all an understanding of what it means to know ‘God within’. Research has shown that stillness and silence help create a space where children are open to the presence of God. This in turn helps to strengthen children’s relationship with God, and offers a sense of personal agency in spirituality which can renew faith (Anne Graham, Australia 2020)

Sacrament of Confirmation
This term, Year 6 students who have been baptised Catholic, will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation confirms Baptism and is considered the final formal step in the process of becoming initiated into the Christian community. Archbishop Prowse has created this video which he suggests parents might like to show their children in the days or weeks leading up to their Confirmation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUqcgJxJ4v8. Confirmation is a very special milestone in the faith journey of our children. The Confirmation Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Christopher Prowse on Sunday 23rd June at 10:30am.
If your child will be making the Sacrament of Confirmation this term, there will be a Parent Information and Enrolment Evening held next Thursday 16th May at 5:30pm in the Year 6 classroom. Please see below for other key dates in relation to the Sacrament of Confirmation. We look forward to working closely with these children and their teachers in preparing them for this special sacrament.
