Sports News
The weeks are just flying by!
Week 4 already and while many would think sports events are starting to wind down for the 2022 year, it most definitely is not.
MacKillop Athletics Championships Sydney
In Week 2, Asher B in Year 5 travelled to Sydney Olympic Park to compete in the MacKillop Athletics for the MacKillop Team. Asher was in the long jump event where he was placed against many other 11 year olds from across the state in wet and rainy conditions. Congratulations Asher for reaching this level of success!
Asher B: ‘I went to Sydney to participate in the State Athletics Carnival. I went in the 11 year boys Long jump against 39 other boys. The hardest part was jumping in the rain because I forgot my spikes. The part I enjoyed most was that I met some new friends. One person I met, his name was Noah. It was a good experience!’
CG Sports Trials
Included in the previous newsletters from last term up till now, I have been flagging with you some dates for Canberra Goulburn Archdiocesan Sports Trials for the 2023 school year. In an attempt to free up the calendar for swimming etc in early 2023, it was decided that trials for Cricket, Touch Football, Tennis and Basketball would take place at the later end of this year. All trail information is included below. Please note: registration for cricket trials have now closed but all others are still open for registration by students currently in Years 4 and 5. Students wishing to trial must have a level of experience and play competitively with a high level of skill and ability.
Cricket Trials
This Friday, Jaxon E is trialing for a spot in the 2023 CG Cricket team. Darcy F has only just finished competing at the 2022 Cricket Championships in the MacKillop Boys Team. Darcy experienced huge success as reported in the last newsletter and has therefore automatically made selection into the 2023 CG Cricket team. Congratulations Darcy! We wish Jaxon luck this week and look forward to hearing about the trials on his return.

I am in the process of planning sporting dates for the 2023 school year, including the St Mary’s Swimming Carnival and the pathways following on from this, which will all kick off very early next year. I will communicate dates with families as they become available and confirmed on our school calendar.
St George Dragons ‘Best You Can Be’ Visit
Stage 3 students were excited to welcome back to our school, this week, the St George Dragons Best You Can Be Team. Adam Bezzina, Courtney Crawford and NRLW Dragons player Keele Browne shared with us the importance of eating healthy, drinking enough water and making sure that we seek help if we are feeling down and do something fun to lift the mood.
The students participated in several physical activities and fitness challenges and were great leaders, showcasing the great leaders we have at our school.
Lincon S: Today was so fun! I enjoyed playing the games and doing the activities with the Dragons visitors. It was great they could visit!
Zac W: I liked playing the 3 on 4 defence and attacking game with Courtney. It was fun!
Sonny C and Kai W: I liked being in Keele’s fitness activity. We had to do pushups and a planking challenge.
Emily-Kate K: The 3 on 4 attack game was my favourite, it was just like a game of touch footy.
Kyle S: It was very fun to get out and play with some of the Dragons crew. We got to do some fun activities like a defending game, a mini game and some fitness too.
We are hoping to continue our involvement in the ‘Best You Can Be’ program with the St George Dragons again next year.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
