Southern Region Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to the 60 St Mary’s students who competed at the Southern Region Athletics carnival last Tuesday at Bega. The warm sunny day greeted us on arrival and it was wonderful to watch all our St Marys students cheering each other on during their races. Thank you to Mrs Jess Afflick who accompanied us to Bega, supervising the students and making sure they were all at their events at the right time. 

A highlight for me on the day was watching the incredibly close race between the Mary’s and St Bernards senior relay teams: there was lots of cheering and screams of encouragement coming from both teams.

In a very close finish and by only 3 points, St Mary’s was the winning Southern Region School. Congratulations to the team on an outstanding effort across all track and field events to bring home the trophy.

We have many students moving on to the Archdiocesan Athletics carnival in Canberra on Tuesday 23 August at the AIS. Congratulations to the following students on their selection into the Archdiocesan Athletic Team.

Congratulations to Mitchell W, Darcy F and Xavier H who have qualified for early entry into the 1500m race at the MacKillop Championships in Sydney on 21 September. These, and other St Mary's students ran the 1500m race at Southern Region Athletics last week. Their times were compared to others across the diocese and have come out in the top 2 positions in the Junior and 11 years age groups. Please note: This race will NOT be run at the upcoming Canberra Goulburn Archdiocesan Athletics in Canberra in a few weeks.

A special congratulations to Asher B (Year 5) and Archer S (Year 6)
who were both awarded the Southern Region 11 Years and Senior Boys Age Champion for Athletics. Excellent efforts boys!
