Religious Education News

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a joy to be able, once again, to welcome our families back on site here at school and be able to share in our learning and celebrate special occasions together.

Year 3 Reconciliation Retreat
Last Friday, Mr Harpley and myself travelled to Carroll College with all of the Year 3 students, along with Year 3 students from St Bernard’s for a Reconciliation Retreat Day. There was much excitement on the bus ride out to Broulee. The boys and girls were very happy have the opportunity to say hello to many of their friends, older siblings and even their old Year 6 Buddies at the College once we arrived.

The events of the day were very capably led by the Year 9 Youth Ministry class. These students were exceptional in their leadership and the way they worked with the younger students throughout the day. There were many fun games played, as well as activities looking at scripture and how we can be more forgiving in our own lives.

Students enjoyed a hotdog and ice block for lunch and we finished the day with Fr George sharing a special prayer and blessing for the First Reconciliation candidates. We thank Carroll College for hosting a wonderful day out for our students.

Sacrament of First Reconciliation
This coming Wednesday 30 March, twelve of our Year 3 students will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. The celebration will take place in the Church at 5:30pm. We keep these students in our prayers over the coming week as they continue to prepare for this very special celebration.

Rose Planting for Catherine Hulse
Last week, we held a special rose planting ceremony after school in honour of the late Catherine Hulse. Catherine was a past student at our school, and her son Charlie graduated from Year 6 last year. Members of Catherine’s family, including her Mum Wendy, son Charlie, sister Ali and nephew Fergus, as well as members of staff joined together in prayer. Charlie assisted Mick Hallahan to plant a rose and add a plaque to the garden under the flagpole to provide a lasting memory of Catherine here at St Mary’s.

Condolences
We send our sympathies to Callum T (Year 4), Leanne, Michael and Jess following the passing of Leanne’s mum Carol. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

Lord, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
